As a boy my mom MADE me go to Sunday School. We would make the half hour trek to church several towns away, mainly because it's where her mother went. To me it meant having to get up early on a day off from school.
Mom would stay for church and we would ride home with my grandfather. One day I decided to go to church instead of Sunday School, mom didn't care, I was going.
One day sitting in church, I decided I was going to be a minister. It hasn't happened so far and I am not ruling it out. Kenneth Copeland started his studies in his 30's.
Fast forward a little bit, due to issues among the families that ran the church and mom's need to go back to work, we stopped going. Mom worked Central Supply at the hospital and had to work Sundays some times.
Moving into the early 80's, I went to a Fred Price meeting at the Brendan Byrne Arena. Got saved for sure (really don't know if I ever was before, don't remember it at my old church) and filled with the Holy Spirit.
As a side note, most people know the day and hour of salvation. Unfortunately, I made no note of it and can't find the date he was in New Jersey.
A problem with salvation is that if no one follows up to guide you it's easy to just keep doing what you were doing. And that's what happened, it was like nothing changed.
Go forward another 20 years, early 2000's. A friend we were in business with directs Karen and I to Charles Stanley and his monthly "In Touch" magazine. We find him and Joel Osteen on TV. Our education begins.
Let's move ahead to 2013. We make the move from Florida to the little town of Fulton, Texas.
Population: 1356.
We start going to the full gospel church across the street from our house. We liked Pastor Varner because he only teaches from the Word and he'll tell you to check it out for yourself. Suddenly, we are being taught and fed the Word of God. Karen and I become active in the church through involvement in website building, email client, food pantry and the Women of Joy Ministry. We got baptized in water and the Holy Ghost.
We now have a hunger for the Word of God. We feed ourselves not only with church and it's Bible studies but also Joel Osteen and John Gray. That leads us to Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Brother Copleand and Gloria, Pastor George Pearsons, Pastor Greg Stevens, Dr. Gene Bailey and others from KCM.
Through KCM, we start following Jesse Duplantis, Jerry Savelle and others with the same beliefs.
Hurricane Harvey forced us from our little town and church, through the magic of electronics we still learn and get filed with the Word. Oh, we still use that non-battery operated device for our studies, the Bible.
Hope my random thoughts on this blog inspire people to think about and research the Word.
